Burnout is more than being tired

The difference between ordinary fatigue and the emotional, cognitive and physical strain associated with burnout.

Rest can resolve ordinary tiredness. Burnout often persists because it is linked to prolonged stress, depleted emotional resources and a growing sense that the demands placed on you exceed your capacity to respond.

Common signs of burnout

People may notice emotional exhaustion, reduced motivation, irritability, detachment, difficulty concentrating and a sense that even routine tasks require unusual effort.

Physical symptoms may include disrupted sleep, tension, headaches or changes in appetite. A medical professional should assess symptoms that are persistent or concerning.

Recovery requires more than endurance

Burnout is not a character flaw. Sustainable recovery may involve boundaries, workload changes, support, rest and examining the beliefs or circumstances that keep the stress cycle in place.

Therapy can help you map the pattern

A psychologist can help you understand the interaction between your environment, expectations, coping style and emotional needs, then develop a realistic recovery plan.
